I am going to begin working on my GSoC project this week. Lots of enthusiasm and high hopes.
I am a contributor to Wikimedia since a few months. My project involves a few critical bug fixes for the Translate extension for Mediawiki. Me as well as my mentors are really enthusiastic about this project as those changes will be really beneficial for the Translate extension.
Here is my GSoC application:
As most people, I was pretty unsure of everything when I started. I got into contributing to Mediawiki as I was interested in PHP.
Initially, it was all too difficult until I picked up my first single bug and solved it. The community out there is simply awesome. I got an amazing amount of help and guidance at IRC. Fixing the first few bugs helped me gain confidence and I got involved even more.
I got a GSoC project idea proposed by Mediawiki developers for the Translate extension for Mediawiki. I was really amazed by the features of the extension and was really onto doing this project. I received a tremendous amount of help from fellow developers and mentors in fixing the first few bugs for the extension which actually helped me a lot in understanding the project.
